Homework
Homework serves as an important link between home and school. It reinforces what is taught in the classroom. Homework is assigned for three basic reasons:
- To give students opportunities to reinforce new skills that have been acquired.
- To let students expand class activities and encourage individualized and often imaginative and creative interests in learning.
- To prepare students with an adequate background for future class instruction.
-
Emergency Information
Students may not be released from school during regular school hours unless the parent/guardian or other authorized adult picks up the child and signs him/her out in the office.
An emergency card must be on file for each student on campus. If any information changes on the card, parents should notify the office immediately. Each card needs to have at least two emergency contact numbers listed. If students are temporarily being cared for by any person other than his/her parent or legally-appointed guardian, please advise the office.
Someone must be available to pick up your child if she/he needs to be sent home from school for illness, injury or disciplinary reasons. If you move or change phone numbers, please stop by the office to update your emergency cards.

Student Arrival and Departure
Playground supervision is not provided until 8:00 a.m. each school day. For this reason, students are not permitted on campus before this time.
Only those students eating breakfast at school may arrive at 7:45 a.m.
It is expected that students leave campus at the end of their day. Because there is no after-school supervision, primary students (1st-3rd) are not permitted to wait for older brothers and sisters. All students must be picked up or go to after-school programs at their dismissal time. -

Attendance
The staff at Powell is committed to providing an educational program that will benefit students. To achieve this goal, consistent attendance is essential. We ask for your support in scheduling appointments after school. It is necessary that each absence be cleared by a note or telephone call from parents. A student who is absent must bring a note from a parent explaining the specific reason for his/her absence on the first day back at school.
In case of extended illness, assignments may be requested through the main office with a one-day notice by a parent.
