Powell School is a community of learners that fosters a safe, positive, and welcoming environment which promotes social and academic success for all.  At Powell, we believe in developing the "whole" child, including physical, social, and cultural development.  We have high expectations for all students to excel through rigorous and challenging common core curriculum.   Meaningful homework is assigned on a regular basis.

 A strong emphasis is placed on improving literacy. Teachers are implementing regular reading assessments to place students in appropriate intervention groups.   Think Together, an after-school program, is offered to provide students with homework assistance, curriculum enrichment, physical activity, and snack time.  The library has a wonderful selection of materials, including a parent checkout section.  All grade levels visit the computer lab at least twice a week and chrome books are available for student use as well.

 Powell is "a place where school and community come together for the success of our children.” Teachers and families work together to assist students.  Powell students earn awards for perfect attendance and honor roll.  Character trait awards are presented monthly to recognize students who exemplified the focus trait such as respect, patience, honesty, responsibility, pride, caring and citizenship.  Panther Parents hold fundraisers for field trips and special assemblies.  Families and community members are provided opportunities to become involved through Family Fun activities, committee participation and as classroom and school volunteers.
