As you may be aware, Governor Gavin Newsom announced on February 28 that all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, would no longer be required to wear masks at school as of March 12, 2022.
Additionally, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) aligned with the State and will not require students and staff to wear masks at school as of March 12, 2022, regardless of vaccination status.
These past two years, AUSD has remained committed to the safety of our students, staff, and community. Our goal has been to provide safe learning environments to keep our students learning in-person while adhering to the health orders that govern our school operations.
We will remain consistent in our adherence to the laws and health orders governing our District. To that end, Friday, March 11, 2022, will be the last day masks are required indoors at AUSD schools and offices. The first day of in-class instruction with no masking requirement will be Monday, March 14, 2022. Additionally, temperature scanning will no longer take place beginning Monday, March 14, 2022. There might be some cases where students and staff will still be required to wear masks but we will personally communicate with those individuals as the need arises.
Masks, though, will still remain an option for everyone. We encourage you to determine what is right for you by discussing this change with your students and/or healthcare providers. We understand that there are differing viewpoints on masking, and we are asking that all students, staff, and visitors demonstrate empathy and respect for everyone’s individual choices when it comes to masking.
We are continually thankful for your support and shared attention to student and staff safety. We appreciate the flexibility you’ve demonstrated over the past two years in supporting our students and school community.
We will continue to communicate any changes to health protocols as they occur.
